About
Bart is a specialist General Surgeon (FRACS) with extensive sub-specialty training in liver, pancreas and bile duct (HPB) surgery accredited through the Australian, Aotearoa New Zealand Hepatic, Pancreatic & Biliary Association.
He completed his General Surgery training in Queensland followed by Hepatobiliary, Pancreatic & Liver Transplant sub-specialty fellowships in Melbourne, Australia and Calgary, Canada. During these 3 years of additional training there was exposure to high-volume HPB Oncology with Vascular Resections (Venous & Arterial), Liver Transplantation, Neuroendocrine Tumours & HPB Endoscopy (ERCP). During his time in Canada he also received additional training in Total Pancreatectomy with Islet Cell Autotransplantation (TPIAT) for chronic pancreatitis and will be aiming to bring this therapeutic option back to Melbourne to provide a Victorian first.
His practice includes a full complement of benign and malignant HPB Surgery. Of particular interest are:
Locally-advanced and borderline-resectable pancreas cancer with vascular resection
Complex hepatic oncology combining adjuncts such as ablative techniques
Neuroendocrine tumours of the Gastrointestinal Tract and Pancreas, including metastatic liver disease
Tumours involving the Inferior Vena Cava
Surgery for Chronic Pancreatitis including Total Pancreatectomy with Islet Autotransplantation
In addition to his sub-specialty interests he still enjoys the day-to-day of general surgery pathology including, but not limited to, appendicitis, gallstone disease, inguinal and abdominal wall hernia, small bowel pathology and gastrointestinal endoscopy (GESA accredited).
Bart has a public appointment at St Vincent’s Public Hospital in Fitzroy, Melbourne and is affiliated with Melbourne Surgical Group. His private rooms are located at St Vincent’s Fitzroy with operating locations at St Vincent’s Private Fitzroy and various Epworth locations.
